Looking for ways to get involved in your community? Like to spend time outdoors looking at stunning shoreline vistas? Want to help otters and support conservation efforts in the Central Coast? Have we got a job for you…
The Otter Project & Monterey Coastkeeper are recruiting volunteers to help pilot an exciting new program called MPA Watch. Volunteers will be trained to monitor resource use in and around marine protected areas (MPAs) to help support the management of underwater parks throughout the Central Coast. What this boils down to is a lot of time hanging out at beautiful ocean overlooks, watching the boats go by—not bad for a day’s work.
Of course volunteers have to be willing to sit on the beach in a beautiful place for a few hours at a time—which at times means braving the blustery and temperamental Central Coast weather. If that’s not your thing, we are also seeking Outreach and Education volunteers to help us spread the sea otter word.
The Otter Project is excited to welcome volunteers, and we can’t wait to get started! Please join us at an introductory meeting on February 23rd, 2010 at 6 pm to learn more about volunteer opportunities and to sign up for trainings and shifts.
The meeting will be held at the First National Bank Community Room at 615 Abrego St. in Monterey. You can RSVP by e-mailing Heather at otterproject.org or let us know you’re coming on our facebook event page here. RSVPs are not necessary, but are appreciated to give us an idea of how many to expect!
